I woke up this morning and got ready for my morning run. A new hotel means a new running location means new music.

What should I listen to this morning? I asked the concierge at the hotel if he had any music recommendations. An older gentleman that looked like he had soul. “You’re on your own, kid,” was his curt reply. Wow. Ok. Guess he’s not in a recommending mood. But let karma take care of his attitude. I’ll stay positive. He may have had a long night, so I won’t question.

I did hear that Taylor Swift claimed all 10 top spots on the Billboard charts last week. Which means I must be one of 3 people on the planet who hasn’t heard her new album yet. This must be the most-played album since that vigilante sh$t pushed Songs of Innocence onto iTunes accounts around the world.

I walked outside. The ground was wet. Must have been some midnight rain. But it was clear now, and the pre-dawn sky was bejeweled with stars! So I pulled up Spotify and said, “Play Taylor Swift, Midnight.” I started running.

It’s a nondescript suburb I find myself in. A bit of a labyrinth, actually. I don’t know who the mastermind was that designed this area, but their drafting pen had a glitch that wouldn’t draw straight lines. As the sun started to creep up, there was a beautiful maroon glow to the east. It was bigger than the whole sky. It was enough to make one emotional. That, and the exertion of exercise. I whispered a sweet nothing to the universe, thankful for the opportunity to experience this sunrise. No “would’ve, could’ve, should’ve” this time. I’ll make the most of it. I made it back to the hotel. Time to clean up and dive into the day.

Oh, how was the album, you ask? I couldn’t say it had much impact on me. But for some reason, I grabbed my cardigan on the way out the door and ordered a grande caramel non-fat latte at Starbucks. That’s weird…
